Here's What To Be Expecting When Newborn Kittens Are Expected

Cats length of pregnancy from conceiving to the time kittens are born runs between sixty to sixty four days total.

To start with, the cat's pregnancy isn't noticeable. This is normal, just as in the rest of the animal kingdom, pregnancy is
something that shows up in time.

Around mid-way of the time between conceiving and giving
birth it will become quite noticeable that your feline is, indeed, pregnant.

Mid-way through the pregnancy, the cats' belly starts to grow and often cat owners think that it is overeating and becoming fat.

Once the belly swells, it won't be long before nipples begin to protrude and it will be very obvious then that the cat is pregnant.

Numerous concerns come up relating to what follows from this point for cats expecting kittens and
exactly everything that should be done to get ready for the birthing of new kitties and health of the mother cat.

A couple of weeks before birth, the "baby bumps" of new kittens may be felt in the mother's stomach and there may even be obvious outline of the
kittens with gentle strokes of the hand.

 Preparing a
location for birth should be taken care of now. Felines desire a secluded location without
light. Inside a closet with the door slightly open so the mother can get in and out may be
a perfect place.

Even though an ideal area has been readied, it still isn't a sure bet that the
pregnant feline will actually go along with it. Felines have a mind of their own. Allow the mother cat to nest where she chooses, just try to see that it's safe for her and the newborns. An expectant mother cat will look for the perfect birthing spot within days of giving birth and
she may stark looking around up to a week or even two weeks in advance. It should be noted that although a place may be readied by the cat caretaker or the cat
herself, this doesn't mean the place will be used, expect the unexpected because she may suddenly give birth anywhere else, whether it's the living
room, garage, bathroom or under a bed but just let her be. In case the kittens are born in a less than ideal location, not to worry, the mother cat will generally pick them up and
move them to the place she had in mind for them to be and one should not get in the way of letting her do so.

 Approximately 24 hours or
less prior to birth, one may observe excessive licking going on as the mother will begin to lick herself incessantly near to the genitalia.
Thirty minutes or more before the actual birth, the water will break which looks like some kind of thick
fluid being sprayed from the mother cat.

Another popular question about pregnant cats is the question of how many kittens to expect . Usually 1-4 kittens is normal but of course, it can be more. Getting an exam from your veterinarian may give a more accurate
answer.

Once the babies are born, they will be blind and deaf. Within a couple of weeks, the eyes will open and the kittens will begin to hear. All kittens
are born with blue eyes and within a short time the eye color often changes to the familiar green we see in cats

If the mother allows it, newborn kittens can be gently touched. Sometimes the mothers want their
babies to be left entirely alone and if that's what she wants then that's what she should get.

At around eight to ten weeks old, the kittens will be ready to be
placed into a new home and won't need their mother after that. Expect that it will be at least two to three weeks for a newborn kitten to start
acting like kittens as it takes a little time to grow and get strong before scampering playfully.

So now you know what to expect when your cat is expecting. Visit the vet
for immunizations as needed for new kittens in order to keep them in good health.
